Free Virtual Workshop: Language variation and linguistic bias in the classroom
October 25 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm
FreeThe classroom is a place that is rich in language diversity. Unfortunately, such variation often comes with linguistic bias — judgments about people based on how they talk. Because children become aware of these differences and their associated biases starting at a very early age, early childhood educators play a vital role in the promotion and celebration of language diversity. In this interactive workshop, we will review research on linguistic bias, discuss the harm it causes, and offer tools for avoiding it in our lives and classrooms.
